The Real Housewives of Atlanta Recap: Kandi Mama Drama

The Real Housewives of Atlanta, Episode 2: "Girl Code Breakers"

I feel like I'm experiencing a little deja vu here, y'all.  Hasn't Kandi been in this situation with Mama Joyce before?  I'm pretty sure they have danced this dance before with Kandi's first fiance, A.J. (may he rest in peace).  Kandi's hair may be longer and Mama Joyce's wig may be (a little) better, but the accusations of gold digging and Kandi's amazing facial expressions remain the same.  So, what went down with the ladies in this episode?  Hit the jump to find out.

Kenya is leaving the courthouse.  She is triumphant!  She has beaten the evil landlord!  Twirl on that, bitches!  She is confronted by a rag tag group of, um, paparazzi?  Reporters?  People Kenya hired to make her look important?  Are they from examiner.com?  Who knows.  Seriously, this is some random, trifling ass "press."

Porsha is still in the midst of her divorce downward spiral.  Girlfriend has moved back in with her mom and Mama Williams drops some more dirt on the Stewarts marriage.  Porsha is living with her mom and Kordell is paying spousal support.  It turns out that Kordell wouldn't give Porsha money so Mama Williams would spot her $500 here and there.  Um… do you think she would adopt me?  I'm awesome.  And I wouldn't make her give up her bedroom.  Come on, Mrs. Williams.  You know you want to have a new son.

Nene decides to meet with Kenya to clear up the ridiculata that happened at Cynthia's party.  She also wants to convince Kenya to try to mend fences with the other women.  From the jump, Kenya tries to draw on those acting chops to get sympathy from Nene.  She brings up being evicted.  She tries real hard to get a tear out, but it is just not working for her.  Too much Botox, perhaps?  She then tries to again try to guilt Nene about inviting Walter to her wedding, but Linnethia is not having it.  She gets the convo back on track and gives Kenya a much needed reality check about how she has rubbed pretty much all the ladies the wrong way.  Kenya backpedals pretty quickly when Nene confronts her about the texting allegations she busted out at last year's reunion.  Nene pretty much ignores all Kenya's protests and tells her that she will be meeting the other ladies so Kenya can apologize.  Is Kenya capable of a genuine apology?  I get the feeling she may be a borderline sociopath, so maybe she can fake it?

So, besides Gregg, the husbands in Atlanta are kind of giant dicks, no?  Take Peter, for example.  Cynthia is suffering from fibroids.  Apparently, they cause her hormones to go all out of whack.  She thought she was pregnant.  She's hitting the drive-thru at 3 am.  She's gaining weight.  Her sex drive is down.  Is Peter sympathetic to any of this?  Does he have her back?  Does her comfort her?  Nope.  He calls her lazy and calls her a bitch.  Ugh.

Cynthia makes an appointment with a doctor to see if she is a candidate for fibroid surgery.  Maybe now Peter will be supportive.  Let's check in.  Nope.  He's talking about Cynthia's back fat and how she needs to control herself.  Who needs a uterus?  AmIright?  The doctor confirms that Cynthia's fibroids are real and that she is a candidate for the surgery.  Suddenly, Peter believes her.  Of course she has fibroids.  She's no longer a fat pig with no self control.

Another husband who needs to get his shit together stat is Apollo.  It really looks like Phaedra is doing it all and I don't think that is a trick of editing.  Apollo seems like a passive aggressive child.  That sullen, shoulders slumped backpack walk out of the house didn't make me feel sorry for him.  It just made him look pathetic.

Prior to Nene's "Come to Jesus" with Kenya and the other women, Kandi hosts a little get together at her house, minus Nene and Kenya.  Talk quickly turns to the Stallion Bootied former Miss USA and her general inappropriateness.  Phaedra claims that Kenya offered Apollow a "Monica Lewinsky."  Seriously, ladies?   Can we not say blow job?  Is that just too much for your delicate sensibilities?

At Nene's meeting, Kenya is defensive from the jump, but the other women aren't having it.  Kenya desperately tries to backpedal and distance herself from the comments she made at the reunion but it doesn't really work.  Sorry, sweetie, but this righteous indignation act is about as believable as Carrie Underwood's performance as Maria.  Porsha is over it pretty much immediately and gets crunk in a hot second.  She is going through a goddamned divorce, people!  She ain't got time for this!  Kenya half-heartedly apologizes for a comment she made about Apollo maybe giving Phaedra AIDS because he was in prison and a tentative peace is reached.

Kandi goes to meet Mama Joyce at her old house, which is now Mama Joyce's new house.  It doesn't take long for Joyce to unload on Kandi, telling her everything she doesn't like about Todd.  Her number one complaint is that he is an oppurtunist.  He's not a provider.  Riley doesn't like him, either.  Joyce thinks that if anything ever happened to Kandi and Todd was in charge of her affairs that Todd would toss Mama Joyce out on the street.  She even gives Kandi shit about the ring Todd got her, even though it was the exact ring that Kandi asked for.

I really feel for Kandi.  She obviously loves her mother.  I know a lot of people think that Kandi needs to stick up for herself, but I think she does in her own way.  She listens to what her mother says, because she is respectful of her, but she does what she wants to do.  Mama does need to calm her ass down though.  This is obviously hurting Kandi pretty deeply.

So, what did you guys think?  Were you a fan of Porsha's short wig?  Can Kandi be a little more forceful with Mama Joyce while still being respectful?  Let's hear it.
