RuPaul's Drag Race Recap: "The Tightest Snatch… Game in History."

RuPaul's Drag Race, Episode 5: "Snatch Game"

It's time for the Snatch Game, y'all!!!  This is every Drag Race fan's favorite challenge.  In season two, RuPaul gave us the game show with drag queens impersonating celebrities that we didn't even know we wanted.  We did want it though.  We wanted it real bad.  Over the past five seasons, we have seen the queens give some stellar performances, but I think that Ru was right when she deemed this years, the tightest Snatch Game in herstory.

There was no mini challenge this week, since we want to see as much of the actual show as we possibly can.  There was some drama as the queens prepared and decided who they were going to portray.  Some of the queens were seemingly clueless.  I was sort of surprised when Ben DeLaCreme said he didn't do impressions and after seeing his Alyssa Edwards, I'm not surprised.  Laganja schooled us in the art of the celebrity impersonation.  It's not just looking like the person that you are impersonating, but sounding like them too.  Jesus.  I have never wanted to smack someone more in my life.  Milk's decision to be Julia Child was very Milk, in the way that it was totally out of left field, but also very Milk, in that she didn't really seem to have thought it out totally.  Gia made the brilliant decision to lampoon the HILARIOUS dead Tejano singer, Selena.  After some shade thrown her way by Ru, she  changed it up and decided to go with Kim Kardashian.

So, to run it down real quick, here is the queen and who she portrayed and how she did:

Bianca Del Rio as Judge Judy  Bianca killed it as the judgemental bitch and one of Ru's favorite people.  She was brash, she was loud, she interrupted and she was hilarious.  I loved the Burt puppet and how she jumped in to read the other queens whenever the chance arose.  I howled when she told Gia's Kim K. that "Beauty fades.  Dumb is forever."  It's no surprise that she landed in the top 3 for the week.  If her Ru look had been a little stronger, I think she would have won.

Adore Delano as Anna Nicole Smith  This performance really made me start to like Adore more than I have.  I'm slowly turning into a fan.  It could also be that she started to form a big/little sister bond with Bianca.  It was a really nice moment when Bianca loaned Adore her spare waist cincher.  As far as Adore's Anna Nicole, it was uncanny.  It was as if the former Playboy Playmate had risen from the dead.  It was kind of scary.  Adore paid loving homage to her idol but it wasn't so reverent that it wasn't funny.  I did agree with guest judge, Heather Macdonald, that maybe Adore was so much like Anna Nicole in real life that it took a little away from her performance.

Milk as Julia Child  Milk did warn Ru to have low expectations when he did his work room walk through and Milk lived up to those low expectations.  It was a mess.  There wasn't a laugh to be had.  Then, Milk went as work room Ru for his runway look.  When I saw him in that shiny suit and that bald cap, I was afraid that this was it for the out there queen.  There was a slight read for wearing pants from Michelle Visage, but I think that Ru really admired Milk's giant balls and that is what kept him out of the bottom two and in the competition.

Courtney Act as Fran Drescher Courtney's Fran was mediocre.  It wasn't the worst and it wasn't the best.  I worry about Courtney.  I love her, but she is kind of fading into the background.  She needs to step it up and show everyone that she is a force, otherwise she might face an early exit and there is no reason that she should go home before queens like Laganja and Trinity.

Laganja Estranja as Rachel Zoe  Even though Laganja is an improv queen who knows everything there is to know about celebrity impersonation, she failed miserably at the Snatch Game.  You could just see her get more and more frustrated as the game went on as the other queens, especially Adore, got bigger laughs.  She was such a wet rag.  She can't take criticism.  If someone is honest with her or gives an opinion, she can't handle it and she starts bawling.  It is so ridiculous.  Let's hope that Laganja sashays away sooner rather than later and let's hope that it is Adore that does it.  You're better Adore.  In all ways.

Darienne Lake as Paula Deen  Darienne got some solid laughs as Paula Deen.  It was fun to see Ru's reactions and Darienne's runway look as Catwoman Ru was her best of the season so far.  Darienne is another of those middle of the pack queens who trends towards the bottom.  She needs to step it up or she'll be stomping out in the next couple of episodes.

Gia Gun as Kim Kardashian  Does Gia know what comedy is?  I'm not sure she does.  I think she was going for bitch who is above it all, but it wasn't funny.  There are so many thinks about Kim K that are funny that could have been played up, but Gia just flopped around like a fish out of water.  Her runway look was a hot mess also.  Would Ru ever wear a wig that cheap and with visible roots???  Seriously, girl.  No.  Just no.  I did a little dance when Ru told Gia to sashay away.  Also, how funny was Adore's facial expression in Untucked when Gia claimed to be sensitive like Laganja.  I think the reason why those bitches bonded like they did, is because they are both delusional.

Joslyn Fox as Teresa Giudice  It was nice to see a queen FINALLY lampoon one of the Real Housewives and Joslyn acquitted herself well.  She did make me LOL a couple of times, like when she tried to flip the table or when one of her anwers was "Prostitution Whorses."  She really did well and she may go a little bit farther than I originally thought.

Ben DeLaCreme as Dame Maggie Smith  Ben snatched his second win with his hilarious take on the Dowager Countess from Downton Abbey.  Ben continued to show why he is a front runner and just killed it.  I snorted I was laughing so hard.  From "We originated the language!" to suggesing "Citrus" as an outlandish vodka flavor, Ben was able to just edge out Adore and Bianca, who are looking more and more likely to be a possible final three.

Trinity K. Bonet as Nicki Minaj  Jesus, Trinity.  It was a mess.  She wasn't funny, she didn't look like Nicki or act like her.  The wig thing was a rip off of what Chad Michaels did during his Snatch Game.  A mess.  Trinity should thank her lucky stars that Mama Ru was in a good mood and there were two queens who did a little worse.  Not much worse.  Just a little.

So, what did you Racers think?  Best Snatch Game so far?  Have you softened on Adore like I have?  Who should be the next to go?  Let me know in the comments.
