The Real Housewives of Orange County, Episode 10: "Skunk in the Barnyard"
You may think that Shannon Beador has gone through all the rites of passage that freshmen Housewives face. Feud with a fellow Housewife after you thought they'd be best of friends? Check. Marriage crumbling before our eyes? Check. But for an Orange County Housewife you aren't officially a part of the crew until you confide in Tamra and she blabs to anyone who will listen. And I get that this is all on camera and eventually everyone is going to find out something if you choose to share it with someone on camera, but that doesn't give Tamra the OK to share something so deeply personal with anyone. So, I know it's been 10 episodes, but officially welcome to the Housewives Shannon. Hope you (and your marriage) survive the experience.
So, before Shannon finds out that Tamra is a terrible friend, she is discussing her seemingly horrible marriage with Tamra and I guess asking her for marriage advice is good idea? As Shannon and Tamra are discussing this, we get flashbacks of her horrible marriage with Simon. There is Tamra defending Simon when he is being a prick to Vicki and then flipping out on him when he is a prick to her. Are the producers trying to compare Shannon and David's marriage to Tamra and Simon's? I'm not sure if that is a fair comparison. Shannon and David seem to have the same issues as anyone in a long term marriage. They don't go to bed at the same time, Shannon stays up late, David goes to bed early. While this whole conversation is happening, Shannon gets a text from David. He's upset because rumor has it that Heather is spreading gossip about their marriage ending to anyone in Newport Beach who will listen. The look on Tamra's face says it all. It's an "oh shit" look. Tamra knows she's busted. She immediately begins denying telling Heather anything, which we know is bullshit because wee saw her do it. Tamra is a giant asshole who can't keep her mouth shut and Shannon knows it, but at this point, I don't think she can believe it.
Vicki is planning her standard trip to Puerto Vallarta. It sounds like Shannon and David might join her. Brooks well definitely be there. Ugh. Brooks. Vicki gets some kind of insurance award for something to do with insurance. I have to say I totally zoned out during this because I didn't care. Brooks and Vicki do end up in Mexico and we get some awkward togetherness. There is a massage where they are both naked. I've never been more thankful for cable tv standards and strategically placed blurring. I was hoping that the masseuse working on Brooks didn't understand English because I wouldn't want them to hear talk of Brooks' boner. I'm still scarred.
Good news! Shannon an David are back together. Crisis averted. But Shannon is a woman on a mission. She's upset that word got out that she and David were having problems. I know what you're thinking, she's going to drive back to Tamra's and confront her for running her mouth in the first place. That's what I thought was going to happen. Instead, she shows up at the Dubrow's rental house and it goes down just about how you'd expect. As Shannon goes into the reason she is there, Heather's face completely changes. You just know that this is not going to go well. It all just spirals downward from there. Heather claims she thought Shannon was coming over to apologize for "shouting" at her during her holiday party. Shannon is incredulous at this, but does apologize.
I know people hate Heather for the way she treated poor victim Shannon and I agree that she could have handled this differently. The big question here is: why is Shannon coming to Heather with this and not to Tamra, who she told in the first place? Maybe Shannon is still holding out hope that Tamra didn't betray her and it's easier to come to Heather, she doesn't get along with. There are lots of accusations that are flying around. Heather is claiming that Tamra says that Shannon drinks too much and that her marriage is falling apart. This whole meeting is falling apart. Heather is obviously protecting Tamra and Shannon is confronting the wrong person. Shannon is not getting what she wants from Heather so she starts getting a little manic and bring up how harmful it is to HER KIDS. Once Shannon raises her voice, Heather is done and it is time for four words that will live in OC infamy. "We're done. Please leave." That's right. Heather kicks Shannon out of the house. The best part of all this is Terry in the background watching. It's like he doesn't even know how to handle it. Shannon is shocked too. It's not a good look for anyone.
Also, Tamra and Eddie got a robot baby. They named it Astro. This is a real thing. I'm not sure where else to go with this. So, I'm just going to leave it at that.
Shannon and Heather's horrible, no good, very bad visit spreads like wildfire to the other ladies. Shannon is the first to disclose what went down when she invites Lizzie and Danielle over for a holistic oil part... or something. Lizzie may be super boring, but she does have some good insight when it comes to Heather. When Lizzie talks about Heather's personality, she really hits it on the head and she doesn't really buy Shannon's exaggerated retelling of what went down. Shannon starts to get a little pissy that she is not getting the reaction that she hoped for and I thought she was going to douse Danielle with holistic oil and set her on fire when she suggested that maybe Shannon drinks too much.
Lizzie gets both sides of the story when she meets up with Terry and Heather for dinner. Heather fesses up that Tamra did spill the beans to her about the email and she did maybe mention it to some good and not so good friends of hers at a lunch shortly after. At the same time, Shannon and Tamra meet for dinner and Tamra tells Shannon that she did tell Heather and Shannon learns what many a OC housewife has learned in the past: tell Tamra telephone.
So, is Tamra the worst? Who should Shannon be more upset with: Tamra or Heather? Is Brooks not the grossest ever? Let me know in the comments.
