RuPaul's Drag Race Recap: Drag Queen Idols

RuPaul's Drag Race, Episode 4: "Shade: The Rusical"

As soon as it was revealed that two of this season's contestants had appeared on some version of Idol, you just knew that thre was going to be some sort of singing challenge that pitted them against each other.  I just had no idea that it was going to be this soon.  Ru had the ladies  split up in groups and perform the world premiere of "Shade: The Rusical," written by her frequent collaborator, Lucian Piane.  So, who emerged triumphant?  Let's take a look.

I feel like I should re-iterate my love and adoration for Bianca Del Rio.  I think she is fierce and hilarious.  I love her hatred of the younger queens, specifically Leganja and Gia.  I hate them, too.  If I met Bianca in real life, I'm sure we would be the best of friends.  I know that some people think that she is being too harsh, but I think her realistic idea of what this is, is refreshing.  This is a competition, not "the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pantyhose."  Keep your eye on the prize and keep throwing that shade, bitch.  I love it!

This weeks mini challenge was called Female or She-Male.  The queens were shown various body parts and it was their job to determine whether or not they belonged to a "biological woman" or a "psychological woman."  I would have been terrible at this game.  I think I got every single one wrong.  It didn't seem like the other queens did much better, but there have to be two winners so we can have two teams.  It was Ben De La Creme and Adore Delano.  How does Adore keep winning these mini-challenges?  Is she blowing the producers?  It's the only explanation I can manage.  The other queens must have really sucked it up.

Team Ben consisted of Courtney, Bianca, Darienne, Gia and last and certainly least, Trinity.  Team Adore was Milk, Joslyn, April, and Laganja.  Ben learned from his last team challenge and decided to do the exact opposite of what Adore did.  Good plan, Ben.  He actually played to his teams strengths and thought about what parts to hand to what queens.  Courtney was given the main role of Good Penny, the lead actress in the musical.  Over on Team Adore, Adore took the lead of Bad Penny and seemed to just throw out the other parts like she did with the first challenge.

Trinity just wanted to complain.  She is just a drag queen god damn it.  She just likes to look pretty and lip sync.  If that's all you wanted to do, bitch, then why did you come on this show?  Did you not realize that there was more to it than that?  And why do you beg for help and then as soon as someone offers get all defensive.  Seriously, you need to get to steppin'.

Each team had some alone time with Lucian Piane along with his choreographer sister.  They had their strong members and their weak links.  Courtney was struggling a little with hitting some of the big notes and Trinity was stepping on people and getting attitude and it wasn't a good look.  Adore was actually doing pretty well, but the rest of her team was kind of a mess, particularly April, who you could tell was trying really hard, but was still failing miserably.

I was actually pretty impressed with the musical.  Courtney and Adore both sounded really great vocally, but I can understand why the judges ended up giving the win to the Aussie Idol.  Courtney maybe hit a couple of bum notes, but she really embodied that character, the bright eyed ingenue.  I will say that Courtney needs to not be sassy with the judges when they give her some criticism.  Adore sounded great, but she ignored Michelle's critique about the waist cincher.  Adore could grow a little as a performer, but right now she just acts like she is a crazy tweaker who spouts "Party" all the time for no apparent reason.

It was no surprise when Trinity and April ended up in the bottom two.  It was a valiant effort, but Trinity turned it, flipper and all.  So, April was forced to sashay away.  Maybe she'll end up with Adam Lambert.

So, were you guys impressed with the Rusical?  Are you as over these young queens as Bianca and I are?  Did you realize that Trinity wore a flipper?  Do you think she gets it from the same place the little kids from Toddlers & Tiaras get theirs?  I didn't realize how obsessed with this flipper I was until just now.  Is everyone excited for Snatch Game?  Hit the comments and let me know.
