RuPaul's Drag Race Recap: Talk That Talk

RuPaul's Drag Race, Episode 9: "Drag Queens of Talk"

Gays love Cher.  I know that is a stereotype.  I'm not a big fan of stereotypes, but some are true.  I love Cher.  I'm not even sure how it happened.  It's no surprise that on this episode, where the queens got the chance to interview Cher's mom, Georgia Holt, and her son, Chaz Bono, they freaked out a little bit.  Courtney declared that she was one degree of separation away from Cher!  It didn't work out so well for everyone.  There was name forgetting and abortion talk, which didn't go over the best with Cher's fam.

I always appreciate that RuPaul never forgets his core audience of gay men and straight women.  This episode's mini challenge was the best kind of fan service.  The pit crew were joined by some hot burly dudes under the employ of Johnny Skandros aka "Johnny Scruff."  He is the founder of the gay social networking site "Scruff" and new sponsor this year.  This was basically a sexy game of "Hangman" called "Hungmen."  Each model had a letter on their ass.  Ru gave a clue and then slowly revealed letters.  I was pretty impressed with these bitches.  They were guessing with one letter sometimes and getting it right.  There was some comedy.  My favorite was when Ru gave the clue, "What Lady Bunny has."  Bianca immediately guessed, "Fat ass."  Alas, Bianca was wrong.  "Right in life, wrong in the game."  The answer was no class and it led to one of my favorite Ru bon mots so far this season.  "Lady Bunny is like school on Saturday.  No class."  The game was close, but DeLa pulled it out.

It was on to the main challenge.  Good news, y'all.  It's time for the return of The RuPaul Show!  Each queen would be hosting the show and interviewing Cher's mom, Georgia Holt, and her son, Chaz Bono.  The queens are understandably excited and nervous.  It was kind of sad to see Trinity fall back into her can't do this attitude, especially when I really thought she had finally came into her own during the last challenge.

When it came down to the challenge, it was a mixed bag.  Adore was noticeably frazzled.  Adore depends on her charm and her youth to get by, but when it comes to planning she is fucked.  She has such a limited experience that she didn't know how to deal with Georgia.  She kept asking these embarrassing questions about how it was being a child star and having stage moms and know matter how many times Georgia reiterated it was the depression and she was singing for pennies so her family could eat, Adore just couldn't comprehend it.  It was so hard to watch.  It was also hard to watch Trinity call Chaz Chad over and over and over again.  Seriously, gurl.  Rule number one.  Know the person you're interviewing's name.  Yikes.  Nothing compares to Joslyn.  She starts out pretty well.  I'm thinking that maybe she'll pull out a win.  Then, the next thing I know, she's asking Cher's mom if not aborting Cher changed her mind about the issue.  Whoa.  Shit gets super real and super awkward so quickly I get whiplash.  Everyone is uncomfortable and Joslyn is still keeping it Foxxy, womp womp.

The two queens who do the best are DeLa and Courtney.  DeLa is a natural and really makes both her guests feel at home.  I will say what she is wearing is a mess.  It looks like she is channeling her character from the Rusical.  That dress needs to be burned.  Courntey is effervescent and really sells that relatable yet vapid quality that most talk show hosts have.

On the runway the queens serve some animal realness.  I was living for DeLa's fly outfit and I loved Bianca's leopardess, but it was Courtney Act that showed everyone.  Those wings.  Are you fucking with me?  I loved during the judges critiques when Santino pondered whether the other queens shit their pants when they see Courtney's costume.  Um... duh.  Seriously.  How can you compete with that look?  If you're Joslyn and Darienne, you don't even try.

The judges declare Courtney the winner, her second of the comptetition.  There is lots of talk about Joslyn's snafu, but she is so sincere in her apology and you can tell that despite her giant gaffe, Georgia really likes her.  I think that is the only thing that saves her from landing in the bottom two.  Instead, it's Adore and Trinity.  Alas, the third time is not the charm and Trinity is sent sashaying away.

So, we're getting closer.  What did you guys think of this episode?  Right decision?
